I am 48 years old. In the spring of 2010 my wife was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. After her treatment regimen she went into remission.
In may of 2011 i started having some slight lower back pain which continued to get worse. It eventually moved into my lower ribs and into my eye muscles when i would move them a certain way. I went to a Chiropractor 4 times, an MD and a NP, none of which bothered to take an x-ray. After the entire summer of increasing pain, my wife took me to the ER. They did the x-ray and told me I had 4 broken vertebrae. Nice to think about the Chiro tugging and twisting away!
I then was sent to an Orthopedist who ordered an MRI which of course revealed my condition. I then went to an oncologist. i did 8 rounds of Velcade/Dex and this past June 14 had a stem cell transplant. I am currently in remission and on Revlimid. Right now my biggest issue is the constant hip, leg and foot pain i deal with every waking hour. Not pleasant but much better than the alternative!
During this treatment protocol, during a routine scan on my wife, they discovered some small lesions on one of her lungs. Turns out that it is yet another form of Lymphoma called follicular Lymphoma. She is currently doing a watch and wait approach and gets another scan next month. that will determine the next step for her.
It's been just a little over a year since my initial diagnosis and i must say that I have learned a lot since then. You have ALL been such a great help to me and I can never thank you enough!
In a nutshell that is my story. I'mk still amazed sometimes when i think about the fact that both my wife and I are fighting cancer at the same time.
