Greetings,
I found this forum when I was looking for Myeloma survivors. What I have been reading on the net 'myloma is not curable' doesn't help esp when my mother was just dignosed with multiple myeloma. She is 60yrs. I'll be meeting with an Oncologist (we first went to a Ortho cz she has shoulder blade pain) next week.
I dont know what to expect ,except that she might need radiptheraphy.
I'm from Malaysia, so I dont know how advanced we are with the medicines, I hope to learn from you the options and the costs of your/your loved ones treatment. I'm self paying for her as she is without medical insurance.
I hope you;ll keep my mom in your prayers as well and I hope there'll be a cure for this multiple myeloma !
Blessed be,
~Nisha~

Re: My mom has myeloma
Hi Nisha,
60 is still considered "young" for multiple myeloma patients. That is a good thing. I am 46 and was diagnosed this past June.
I hope your meeting with the oncologist is informative for you. I have no idea what medications will be available to your mother, though thalidomide has been around for a long time and may be an option if nothing else. Radiation may be necessary to kill the cancer cells that are in the area of the plasmacytomas, which might be causing the shoulder blade pain. That is very common in multiple myeloma. I had the same thing, plus pain in my spine, arms, and ribs. If only I knew the symptoms earlier! I merely though I was having muscle pain because I was exercising more than usual last year.
Peace be with you and your mother. I hope there are programs where you live to assist you in your time of need.
