My dad has relapsed after 5 years

by suganti on Sat Mar 08, 2014 2:50 am

Hello,

My father was diagonsed with multiple myeloma in feb 2009 at the age of 49. After diagnosis, he had several chemo cycles followed by stem cell transplant and again two chemos and he came back to normal life. But in 2013, at the age of 53, he was found that disease have been relapsed and now he has undergone 3 cycles of chemotherapy but he could not bear the pain of treatment.

Does anyone have come through the second time of multiple myeloma? How are you overcoming it and whether we can hope for this second time?

Hi,

As I mentioned above my father was relapsed with multiple myeloma in the year 2013 after diagnosed the disease in 2009 and treated. I would like to give more information regarding it for better understanding and I expect the replies regarding how to proceed.

In the year 2009 after diagnosis he was given three cycles of VTD and followed by SCT. Then again he had post autologous where he was given two consolidation cycles first VDT-PACE (Inj.Cisplatin, Inj.Nudoxa, Inj.Etoposide, Inj.Cyclophosphamide) and secondary with DT-PACE (Inj.Dexa, Inj.Cisplatin, Inj.Nudoxa, Inj.Cyclophosphamide, inj.Etoposide, Inj.Bonimet). After these therapies he went on with lenalidomide 10mg on maintenance for a year and without drug until relapse of the disease in Feb2013 as suggested by our haemotologist.

After relapse of disease he again had lenalidomide drug for 4 months and in control but the number was not in control after that which IGG raised to 3600.

Then he had to two cycles of chemo with medicines like Dexa,Inj.Etoposide, Inj.Cisplatin, Nudoxa and cyclophosphamide. By these cycles he was in control of number but the sad face being he disagreed to continue the treatment after Nov 2013. After Nov 2013 he didnt take any medicines and left without drug up to Feb2014 but back to the hand of disease with severe leg pain. Now he had a cycle of chemo with drugs like Inj.Bendamustine, Inj.Myezom, Inj.dexa and Inj.Cisplatin with lenalidomide. Now waiting for the results how far medicine have reacted....
I expect the replies as we are in the hardest face of the disease relapsed stage.

I would like to know whether he can come back to normal life back at any point.

Hi surbhi

I am from Tamil Nadu, South India.

Hope your father will be fine by now as he would have undergone several stages of treatment. Don't worry, everything will get ok.
