My brother Tim was diagnosed with myeloma in June 2009, and although he presented as standard risk, Stage 2 disease, he relapsed only 11 months after his auto stem cell transplant. Unfortunately that relapse signaled the true, aggressive nature of Tim's personal disease. Although we attacked his myeloma with many rounds of chemo and an allo transplant over the past year, Tim succumbed to plasma cell leukemia on February 16, 2012 at the age of 49. He will be missed terribly by our family.
I am ever grateful for the existence of the Beacon and all of the professional and personal contributors. It has been a great source of information, advice and comfort. Myeloma is a tough disease, but it certainly has a strong community of patients, caregivers, family members and medical professionals.
