We were told today to stop using multivitamins while we are on the Velcade regimen.
Has anyone else been told this?

Re: Stopping multivitamins while taking Velcade?
Vitamin C may reduce Velcade's effectiveness. Usually multis have a pretty good dose of the vitamin. Some doctors will allow a multi as long as you avoid it on the day you receive your infusion/injection. However, there is a lot of variation in what an individual physician will allow.
Re: Stopping multivitamins while taking Velcade?
Green tea is also a no-go while on Velcade, and my wife stopped all multivitamins when she was on it to avoid any potential conflict.

Re: Stopping multivitamins while taking Velcade?
Thanks all. It is funny because when my husband started the Velcade back in October, he was told to avoid green tea, but also to start on multivitamins.
Re: Stopping multivitamins while taking Velcade?
I was given a suggested list of supplements to take that might help ward off peripheral neuropathy, but told not to take them the day of my Velcade injection.
Before starting induction chemo, I was taking a massive dose of vitamins for my eyes (macular degeneration) but stopped those. I was not told about green tea.

Re: Stopping multivitamins while taking Velcade?
I gave the haematology / oncology specialists a list of my various supplements, but one specialist told me they were all ok (included Astraforte, CoQ10, turmeric, B vitamin, multivitamin, magnesium ultra).
I wasn't specifically told to avoid multivitamins, but was subsequently told not to take Astraforte tablets (astralogus root, taken for immune support) and the Velcade drug info says don't drink green tea.
Because of the online discussions about this I've since stopped the multivitamin while on Velcade / cyclophosphamide / dexamethasone, but intend to ask my specialist what she thinks when I see her next Friday (1 April).
