Hi,
My father was diagnosed with multiple myeloma Stage3b on September 19, 2015 at age 61. He was experiencing back bone pain and also at his ribs area before he was diagnosed at Singapore hospital Mount Elizabeth.
He was given dex, melphalan, and thalidomide when he first started treatment. Two months ago, his results shown only 6% of plasma cells in his body but last month he was having chest pain and doctor found some fluid in his lungs and he was given Klacid (clarithromycin, Biaxin) antibiotics.
He was also having vertigo these past few days. He still easily fatigue, sweats alot and lost his appetite.
The cost of treatment in Singapore is not cheap, especially at Mount Elizabeth hospital. My father needs to go to Singapore once a month to do check up (we are from Indonesia).
As we go along, I was wondering have we gone to the right myeloma specialists? So I was thinking to get a second opinion from another specialist in Singapore. Does anyone have a suggestion?
And also is it true that PET/MRI scans need to be done every 6 months?
Thanks

Re: Multiple myeloma specialists in Singapore?
Generally speaking, Singapore is known to have some of the most advanced medical care in the world. There was one member of the forum who's mother traveled from the UAE to Singapore for medical treatment.
Might want to ask for a second opinion at the National Cancer Centre Singapore.
I'm just guessing here, but maybe there reason your father has been prescribed dex, melphalan, and thalidomide is because of cost and availability in your home country ? I don't believe Indonesia has a public assistance program like Singapore or Canada (or even a U.S.-style system like Medicaid / private insurance).
