Hi,
I'm looking for a center with multiple myeloma specialists in the Phoenix area. I'm about to face a first relapse (biochemical relapse on Velcade maintenance right now) and would like to have second opinion to figure out the best strategy for the future treatment options.
Thank you very much in advance for any advice.

Re: Myeloma specialists in Phoenix, Arizona?
Hi borber,
I would think that the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale would be the main place to go. They have a large number of myeloma specialists there.
The only other option that comes to mind would be the Banner MD Anderson center in Gilbert, but I don't know if there are any myeloma specialists there.

I go to Arizona Oncology Associates in Tucson and am happy with them. They have branches in the Phoenix area. I can't speak to anyone's particular expertise with myeloma, but the arrangement is working for me in Tucson. I see the doctor Friday and can ask about expertise in your area, if you like.

Borber,
If you need a second opinion, Mayo Scottsdale certainly would be a good place to go. They have at least four myeloma experts who are internationally known, and many more myeloma specialists. They are not in-network for some plans, and then are expensive when you have to pay the amount beyond what your insurance covers. But this won’t make much difference with a second opinion, if you can get Mayo to accept your tests and scans that are already done.
A few years ago I was a Mayo Scottsdale patient for a myeloma LCL-161 clinical trial. All the staff were nice and helpful, and the wait times were almost zero. Lots of rich people go there, and that has enabled them to have enough staff and a extensive facility.
