Multiple myeloma specialist - Adelaide, South Australia?

by Ozziegirl on Mon Jan 04, 2016 2:02 am

I have introduced myself recently and I am soon to go to my general practitioner to get referred to a haematologist. I have read many posts and I think it would be wise to find a physician who specializes in myeloma. I am just wondering if anyone on the Beacon knows of a good one in Adelaide, South Australia.

Thank you if you can help.

Regards Ann.

Hi Ozziegirl,

Your best bet is probably to get in contact with the Royal Adelaide Hospital. There is a multiple myeloma group there, including Dr. Noemi Horvath and Dr. Cindy Lee, and the hospital often has access to multiple myeloma clinical trials running in Australia.

Another option is Dr. Wilfrid Jaksic at North Adelaide Oncology.

Normally for a question such as yours, the list of multiple myeloma specialists at this link,

"International Myeloma Working Group (IMWG) - Members"

is a good place to turn. As you may have noticed, however, it does not include any myeloma specialists in Adelaide.

Cheers!

Ian

Thank you for responding, Ian. That has made me feel a whole lot better to know a few doctors that may be able to help me understand this disease.

Ann

Hi Ozziegirl,

I am in Adelaide with stage 2 multiple myeloma and see the doctors at RAH; I started with a private "specialist" and am not sure that he did not assist with a spinal crush injury causing more myeloma problems.

I would utilise the services of the public system as they have teams of specialist haematologists who have regular meetings to discuss their cases and for backup advice.
