Re: Multiple myeloma / MGUS specialists in South Florida?
I was diagnosed a few weeks ago. My internist referred me to an endocrinologist in her practice because she didn’t like my recent bone density test. Not that the numbers had changed, but why did I have osteoporosis? I went to her and the endocrinologist ordered labs, allegedly checking for celiac disease (not found); however, possible M-protein present, 0.2 g/dL, abnormal protein band 1; gamma globulin 0.7 consistent with hypogammaglobulinemia. All other lab values were in normal range.
So endocrinologist said go to hematologist / oncologist, who poo pooed my condition, calling it an abnormal variant, come back next year. I said I needed serum free light chain labs, at the very least. He said my kidneys are fine, don’t worry.
I did have the serum free light chain test and it was normal.
When I said I couldn’t just wait and see, he said I could take green tea extract, eat animal protein and butter (I rarely eat red meat and never eat butter). I do now. Also taking curcumin / turmeric. My liver was slightly inflamed from the statins I was on, but have since stopped.
Okay, I know I’m tightly wound on an average day, and I’m obsessed with my condition now. My father passed away from acute myelogenous leukemia. I need a second opinion, maybe repeat labs.
Any other suggestions for a myeloma specialist / MGUS doctor in Ft. Lauderdale or anywhere in South Florida?

I'd be happy to see you and sort things out. Also, if you call, we can give you some names of local hematology-oncology doctors who are informed and competent about myeloma and related conditions.
