Multiple myeloma & Lou Gehrig's disease (ALS)

by KrysiaR on Mon Mar 31, 2014 11:41 am

Hi everyone,

Hope you are doing well this Monday morning.

Does anyone have multiple myeloma and Lou Gehrig's disease [ALS - amyotrophic lateral sclerosis]? I met a lady at hospital last Friday and her husband is very anxious about her. They are thinking of putting her on Revlimid and since I'm on it for maintenance, he wanted to know my experiences. I don't think my journey has been the same as his wife's, but I said I'd put it out into the multiple myeloma community.

Any comments would be welcomed.

Thanks and have a great pain-free day!

See:

If I'm understanding this right, you met somebody that has both ALS and multiple myeloma?

See the article below:

In a nut, when being diagnosed for ALS, one will often try to eliminate (hope for) multiple myeloma as a underlying cause to explain the symptoms. I guess my question would be whether the lady had the definitive test (a bone marrow biopsy) to confirm that she truly has multiple myeloma on top of ALS? If she in fact does have multiple myeloma, I would suggest seeking out a top multiple myeloma specialist to treat that part of her overall condition.

I just can't imagine having to deal with both of those diseases at the same time. My heart goes out to her.
