Hi Kathy,
Who is the myeloma specialist you see in Pittsburgh? I was under the impression that there aren't currently any myeloma specialists in Pittsburgh. I'm sure there are hematologist-oncologists at places like Hillman who see a lot of myeloma patients. But I thought most, if not all, of them also see a lot of patients with other blood cancers, so they're not completed focused on myeloma like myeloma specialists are.
One of the reasons I ask is because this is the second or third time recently that someone has posted here in the forum, saying they're from central or western Pennsylvania. So it would be good to know if there are actually myeloma specialists in the Pittsburgh area who can be recommended.
I know there's are one or two myeloma specialists at Hershey, and there are a number of them in Philadelphia. But the Pittsburgh area has been a bit of mystery here to those of us in the forum. Dr. Roodman and Dr. Lentzsch used to be at the University of Pittsburgh, but they moved to other cancer centers within the past several years.

Re: Multiple myeloma diagnosis from biopsy alone?
I see Dr. Entezam Sahovic.
I originally went to the Hillman Center in 2010. After some problems, I checked about potential other myeloma doctors in the Pittsburgh area and got a referral to Dr. Sahovic. I could not be happier with his practice at West Penn or his treatment of me.

Re: Multiple myeloma diagnosis from biopsy alone?
Thanks everyone for the information. I am going with my mom to see a specialist tomorrow, so hopefully we will find out more. Kathy, it won't let me private message you. Can you private message me?
Re: Multiple myeloma diagnosis from biopsy alone?
My husband has non-secreting multiple myeloma, and the only way they can track his myeloma is through biopsies and a PET scan.
He is coming upon his 1-year anniversary for this stem cell transplant, and they are doing a PET scan; if they see new "spots," they will biopsy them.
