Hi All,
I'm new here having been diagnosed with multiple myeloma in March after 2 spinal fractures (T and L) put me in a wheelchair. Unfortunately I'm also battling multiple sclerosis (MS) so my challenges are many but I am thankful for each day. MS made it more difficult to diagnose multiple myeloma since we all suspected a MS relapse initially. Initial shock is wearing off but still doing my due diligence.
Treatment so far is VRD [Velcade, Revlimid, dexamethasone] with monthly Zometa and responding well. Taking 8gm of curcumin per day and a few enzymes. Also recently had kyphoplasty which has improved my walking times with my walker and am a bit stronger every day.
All my best to all of you fighting multiple myeloma.

Re: Dual multiple myeloma and multiple sclerosis diagnosis
Thanks Beacon Staff,
Much appreciate the site and the articles. I have been reading for a while in between periods of denial but at last it's time to pull up my boot straps and resolve to do what I can and let The Lord pick up from there.
Any insights into my MS journey which began 10 years ago with peripheral neuropathy unable to determine cause (idiopathic) to finally being diagnosed in Jan of 2012 be glad to share.
The multiple myeloma was diagnosed using different tests and metrics and manifested very traumatically with compression fractures. Symptoms did overlap which had us stumped initially until all the test results came back. It made it complicated. Now we have discontinued all MS disease modifying drugs ( was on Avonex and about to start Tysabri) since the acute nature of the multiple myeloma demanded emergency intervention.
Nice to know I'm not alone.
