Multibilly - I rue that I was not forewarned. It wasn't until I was gowned up and getting on the table that I was told I would have a contrast dye. I asked them what it was and they explained what it did, not the name of the contrast agent. I had never thought to ask prior to the test.
Right now I am frustrated because while I am aware of my MGUS, it seems to be stable and my specialist has placed me on once yearly visits; he has gauged my MGUS to be very low risk of progression.
Yet, I still have back, leg and foot pain in addition to neuropathy, which is what got me the neurologist then hem/onc in the first place. But I am no closer to relief from my pain/neuropathy.
I took Neurontin (gabapentin) for about 1 1/2 years and it did a really good job, but my brain turned to pudding and I couldn't function, so back to the pain / neuropathy.
Didn't mean to go on there, I'm just in a current state of extreme fatigue and moderate pain. I wish I could find one doctor who could guide me through my health care without needless tests.

Re: Multiple MRIs in one session?
Toni,
Please do not think you need to live in constant pain / neuropathy. Ask about trying Lyrica! It worked wonders for me when Neurontin did zero. Copay assist coupon on website.

Bar-None,
Doesn't Lyrica have the same side effects as Neurontin (gabapentin)? I couldn't think, I couldn't remember, I drove through red lights ...

Re: Multiple MRIs in one session?
Hi Multibilly.
I know you do your research, so I am very glad you mentioned
M Fulciniti et al, "Gadolinium Containing Contrast Agent Promotes Multiple Myeloma Cell Growth: Implication for Clinical Use of MRI in Myeloma," ASH 2009 annual meeting, abstract 1809 (abstract, poster)
I had read about Gadolinium and had read what you mentioned - that it actually promotes multiple myeloma cellular activity as you said.
Hi Toni.My neuropathy has gradually improved. Hot water bothered my feet and I always noticed neuropathy the most at night.
I hope you can find something to help.
Cathy
