Re: Trying to understand mother's test results

Hi everyone!

I just wanted to do a quick update on my mom.. Two days ago it was confirmed that she does have multiple myeloma.

After the wonderful advice that we were given on here, she made an appointment with a local oncologist. He did a bone marrow biopsy on her and we waited what seemed to be the longest week of our lives for the answer.

This website will be full of comfort, support and helpful advice for her as she journeys through this. Thank you, Misty

Hi Misty,

We're sorry to hear that, in the end, your mother's diagnosis turned out to be multiple myeloma. Although we're glad that the advice you got here helped speed the process of getting a diagnosis, we wish the outcome would have been different.

Still, we're sure you've learned enough from what you've already read here to know that there are many, many different treatment options for multiple myeloma, and also many myeloma patients who live long, active lives despite having the disease.

We wish you, your family, and especially your mother all the best. Please feel free to keep us updated on how your mother is doing, and let us know any questions that come up along the way.

And, of course, feel free to share with others here in the forum the experiences you have along the way, as well as any advice or perspectives you may have that will be helpful to others.

Good luck!

P.S. - If your mother isn't already being seen by a myeloma specialist, or planning to do so soon, please see if you can arrange for her to do so. Your mother can arrange to have treatment locally, but it's important for the long-term that your mother establish a relationship early on with a myeloma specialist. You can find a list of myeloma treatment centers here,

https://myelomabeacon.org/resources/treatment-centers/

and, if you let us know approximately where you live, we -- and others here in the forum -- can offer you more specific advice about specialists or centers you may wish to consider seeing.
