Hi,
I am so glad I found this forum.
A little background. My mother was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2006 after she fell and broke her hip. Her calcium level was so high, she landed in the intensive care unit (ICU). She passed away approximately 2 weeks after diagnosis (she also had other medical issues). It was devastating for my family.
Fast forward to now. My younger brother (42) just entered hospice for multiple myeloma as well. He chose not to do treatment for his own reasons (scared of chemo / poor quality of life). I was unaware of his diagnosis almost 2 years ago, because he did not want me to know.
They are saying it is genetic, and I recently had blood work done. Everything came back normal, though my light chains were on the high side of normal, my alkaline phosphatase is high, creatinine is high, and my albumin is borderline high.
I am not an expert in this, so I am learning, and hoping I have nothing to worry about. I already see an oncologist / hematologist for a severe B12 deficiency and low platelets, so I am going to ask about my results when I see him in December.
I have so many questions, but for now, this is my story.

Re: Mother & brother have had multiple myeloma
Hi Angelhvenly,
I read your story with interest. I am new here after recently learning I have smoldering multiple myeloma recently.
Your story has been a rough road. Just rest assured there are people out there who care.
Best wishes,
Carol.

Re: Mother & brother have had multiple myeloma
There seems to be a lot of recent developments being discussed in the field of mutliple myeloma treatment these days and plenty of reason for keeping a positive outlook. I am sorry to hear about your family history and experience. Trust that you will continue to monitor your situation and seek treatment if required.
Lots of great advice on this forum.
