Hello,
I am very glad I found this site because I really need comfort.
My mother has been everything to me and my siblings, she raised us alone and has suffered a lot. In 2013 she started with back pain that we thought it was for working too much.
I gave her a massage with Vaporub, however the pain just got worse. In May 2013 she went to my country and went to see a bone specialist who performed a PET scan and blood work. That's when she was diagnosed. When she called me to tell me her diagnosis, I did not believe anything the doctor told her. I think that I did not believe just because my heart would not accept that my mother, whom I love so much, could ever have such a terrible disease.
When my mom arrived from her trip and I went to pick her up, I could not believe that was my mom on a wheelchair. It was shocking to see that in a matter of two weeks she could not walk because of extreme back pain.
The next day my sis and I took her to a nearby hospital where we were told that the diagnosis was right. My mom was started on Velcade and within a month she was back on her feet,. A year later she was in a full remission and she got a bone marrow transplant at Montefiore Hospital in New York.
After all the suffering, 4 months later my mom was doing great. However, the transplant only worked for about ten months and the cancer came back. She has been on 3 different chemos since and she has been in and out of the hospital with all kinds of infections. A month ago she went into the hospital and was placed in ICU for kidney failure. She is now on dialysis and on a new myeloma chemo.
I have been so depressed that my life has turned upside down, I have gained a lot of weight and I feel anxious all the time. I only wish that she was not on dialysis because she hates it and it makes us all sad. We can continue to fight with the myeloma but now with the kidney failure I am getting a bit weak as well as her.
Sorry for the long thread but I really needed to get it out.

Oh how I wish I could help. I do hope posting to this community provides you some comfort.
I have heard of people getting off of dialysis. I hope this will be the case for your mother.

Thank you so much for your support, I wish everything goes well with her new treatment.

Hello,
My mother has been hospitalized for over a month for low platelets. For the last two months she has been on platelets transfusion almost daily. Her bone marrow biopsy shows an amount of 95% myeloma cells in her marrow. She has been on two different chemos, however her myeloma does not improve.
I feel very desperate to see my mom suffer so much, not only with the myeloma but with dialysis as well. I don't know what else to think. Sometimes I feel that she will get better, but then when her platelets drop so low and she starts bleeding from her nose, I just feel hopeless.
Has anyone seen someone in the same situation?
I would just like to know where my mom is standing. The doctor seems positive. He says he will start a new treatment next week and that she will be ok, I don't know if that will be true.
I love my mother with all my heart and I feel I am losing her.

The hardest is seeing them suffering and there is nothing you can do. My mom went into remission 18 months ago but after the treatment she got worse – continuous infections, nerve damage, and now they are testing for amyloidosis. It is heartbreaking. So much pain and suffering is too much too bare. I am at my wit's end.
