Migrating bands and my M-spike - is it increasing?

by Jer610 on Wed Dec 23, 2015 1:01 pm

Good morning.

I received my latest electrophoresis and immunofixation reports back and had some questions.

The electrophoresis has my total gamma globulins at 1600 and my IgG lambda M-spike at 1.4 (an increase of 0.1 after three straight 1.3). My immunofixation has my IgG at 1755, IgA 35, and IgM 36. The latter two have consistently dropped.

The immunofixation showed my M-spike and two migrating bands. One trace band is migrating in the gamma region and appears to be IgG lambda like the M-spike, and one trace band is in the beta region and appears to be monoclonal lambda light chains.

My questions are:

  1. Would the trace band in the gamma region account for the discrepancy in the total proteins in the gamma region?
  2. Is this trace band a future increase to my m-spike?
  3. Does the trace band in the beta region hold any relation to the other trace band?
Thanks.

I'm sorry. I should make sure that I compare apples to apples. The total gamma globulins should be stated 1.6 g/dl and my M spike as 1.4 g/dl. The immunoglobulins are all mg/dl.

I think my question is: In this scenario, am I looking at an active increase in my M-spike?

Any input would be helpful. I meet with my specialist next week and want to have a good conversation with him. These meetings always seem to be too brief and it helps to come in to them up to speed.
