Migraines after shingles - what helps?

by Kate on Fri Mar 13, 2015 8:43 pm

Hi All,

Another forum member had Velcade and a stem cell transplant (SCT) some time ago and recently had shingles. Now he has continuous horrible, horrible migraines. He is practically unable to function. Doctors call it post herpetic neuralgia.

No medications seem to help him. Is there anybody here who went through the same and what meds helped, if any?

Have done internet search, have read Beacon posts - e.g. Velcade, SCT, shingles (herpes zoster connection, etc.

Would appreciate any suggestions on pain relief.

Thanks, Kate

I had shingles around my eye that turned into trigeminal neuralgia. Also had migraine. I was prescribed amytriptyline (Elavil). I'm not sure if it helped or not, as my multiple myeloma was diagnosed a few weeks later at an advanced stage and I started all my chemo, etc.
