MGUS and rising serum free light chain ratio

by Beddoc on Wed Dec 09, 2015 11:14 am

Having had MGUS (IgG Kappa) for over a year (original m spike 7.2g/l., no anaemia, normal renal function, normal calcium and normal CT skeletal survey) my SFLC has risen to 52.4 mg/l from 33.6 and the ratio has risen from 3.23 to 5.04.

My Haemo-oncologist says this is not significant and suggests a repeat in 6 months.
Whilst happy to accept this, my review of articles suggests that in the UK they are less likely to consider treatments or indeed further investigations than in the USA. What would you consider a significant rise and what would be the next investigation?

I would suggest you ask to see a doctor that specializes myeloma, not just a regular hematologist, at least for one consultation; MGUS is generally not treated, but instead observed.
