MGUS, leukemia, and lymphoma?

by Karenhuston on Fri Feb 27, 2015 8:38 pm

I'm new to the website. Any insight is greatly appreciated - thank you in advance, in case I forget!

I was diagnosed with MGUS while down at the Scottsdale Mayo for a routine exec work up. I got a call a week later they would like to see me again. I had osteoporosis in the spine, 3.4, osteopenia in the hips etc ... So I went to get answers enlighten them including myself them and get on Fosamax (alendronate).

I do everything, come home, and get another call. Please come down and, when they said oncology hematology, I just knew it was not so good, but must be breasts, right?

So I go in and learn about the MGUS and go home on watch and come back to Scottsdale in October and learn I have two cursors present, leukemia and lymphoma, My ag2 is 4.7. M-spike is 5 percent, and this is very new to me.

I see Dr. Keith Stewart. He has some clinical trials going, so hope I'm a candidate, as I have now have ever had any immune system and I site. Anyone have these two precursors active? Am I high risk or will I be able to grow old like I want to? :?: :?:

I wanted to reply because you are obviously worried sick. I think we're probably going to need you to slow down and explain things a little better. I can make out that you have MGUS, and then you also have leukemia, and lymphoma? Or your saying your MGUS is a precursor to these?

I don't want to upset you further, I just think you will get more replies if you could clarify things a little. And I do understand that this is very frightening for you.

So take a deep breath and try to help us understand a little better.

Hi Karen, CindyLouise is right! Try to take a deep breath and maybe itemize the health problems that were found at the Mayo Clinic, Scottsdale? Your health problems of having osteopenia and being started on Fosamax is what happened with me also. You are fortunate, in a sense, if anything such as myeloma, smoldering multiple myeloma, or MGUS is discovered early, before serious damage to your system can occur.

I have heard of Dr. Keith Stewart as being an expert in the field of multiple myeloma, also.
