Please disregard my previous question about the cytogenetics. I just spoke with my father's oncologist and, in fact, he does have smoldering multiple myeloma, not MGUS. He was able to explain more about his bone marrow biopsy.
Thank you all again for the input, especially Multibilly.

Re: MGUS diagnosis today, but should more tests be run?
Hi Helen,
Glad to hear that you got a diagnosis, but sorry it is smoldering. Based on the earlier numbers you shared, I am guessing that his bone marrow plasma cell percentage must just be barely over the edge of 10%.

Re: MGUS diagnosis today, but should more tests be run?
Right again, Multibilly. I don't have a copy of the bone marrow biopsy report yet, but the oncologist told me over the phone it is 12%. So just over the cut-off.
My father's M-spike went from 1.7 to 2.3 g/dL, but this was the university hospital's lab instead of Quest. I've read that there can be a big change in numbers between labs. In fact, I saw the change in your lab values only a week apart. That's amazing to me!
The doctor recommended an MRI to get a better idea of what is going on with those lucent lesions found on x-ray.

That is sound advice regarding getting an MRI.
These numbers sound very similar to mine. My specialist likes to unofficially call my condition "Smoldering Lite".
