MGUS, cervical myelopathy, and myelomalacia

by inspirations7 on Wed Jun 22, 2016 2:31 pm

I have had MGUS for the last three years, and my M-spike continues to gradually rise: from 1.4 g/dL to 1.6 g/dL (14 to 16 g/L) this year. Also, my IgG is high now at 2014. My kappa / lambda ratio (serum) seems to be okay at 0.45. My gamma globulin is high at 1.8. RBC is low at 4.10 and MON% high at 12.2. Also CO2 is high 32.3.

I'm trying to give a picture of where I stand with MGUS right now because I just learned I have cervical myelopathy with myleomalacia and the orthopedic surgeon wants to remove three cervical discs.

At my age (72) with the osteoporosis and MGUS, I am naturally really nervous about this. And if MGUS could turn into myeloma, and my numbers are going up each year, with all its bone destruction, I'm not sure I want to have those discs removed.

However, I was told that my off-balance, legs-giving-way could progress to paralysis and permanent bowel/urinary issues, so I'm at a loss of what to do.

Anyone have any thoughts on this? I would appreciate hearing if anyone else has experienced anything similar.

Thank you for any help you can provide.
