Re: MGUS and pregnancy

Good luck for the 18th! Now that you actually are pregnant maybe your specialist will be more positive/helpful. Since you are planning to have the baby then it doesn't seem like there is much point thinking about worst case scenarios. Much more fun to focus on the best case scenario instead - a beautiful baby in a few months time :)!

I agree with you about psoriasis/autoimmune things being related, I've seen a few articles about that actually.

Obviously I don't know the ins and outs of your situation but from what I have heard/researched MGUS progresses at an average rate of 1% a year (and less than that in many cases depending on risk factors), and many people have had MGUS for years (even decades) before it is discovered. Also, I keep reminding myself that should things progress treatments are getting better all the time, there have been many advances in the field in recent years.

Lys2012 - it sounds like you have consulted all the right people and carried out lots of research. I wish you the best of luck in starting your family :).

I am also wishing you all the best with your pregnancy! It's quite possible that many of us female patients had MGUS when our children were born, since it can be a disease that takes a long time to fully develop into active myeloma. And of course, your likelihood of the MGUS progressing to myeloma IS very low.
My children are adults now, and it's fortunate that if I did have MGUS 30 years ago, I did not even know it!

Hi da_dizzy

I hope you are well and that you have received some reassurance by now.

Just wanted to let you know that I've had a chance to speak with several MGUS and smoldering myeloma patients who got pregnant after their diagnosis, and none of them seemed to have found pregnancy to advance things. At least one lady said that her M-spike had actually gone down during pregnancy (I think there may have been another lady who found this as well, but I can't remember off the top of my head). One lady had been diagnosed with MGUS in her 20's and had 4 children (3 after her diagnosis!).

Anyway, just thought I'd share as I know it's really hard to find information!!
