Methotrexate and multiple myeloma

by Tessie on Tue Mar 17, 2015 10:36 am

My husband has been in CR since treatment in 2009. He has developed sarcoidosis, which hasn't responded well with prednisone. Doctors want him on low dose methotrexate. We are concerned that this drug will affect his myeloma.

Does anyone have any experience using methotrexate?

He is not on any myeloma meds.

I don't see any reason why a patient with myeloma in remission couldn't take methotrexate for a different condition. I suppose it's possible (but very unlikely) that any medication that suppresses the immune system could lead to myeloma relapse. That concern, though, would not prevent me from using a medication that I thought was the right medication.

I wish you my best,

Jlk
