Does anyone know any medications that might cause the results of a serum free light chain test to be inaccurate?
The morning of my test, I had a cortisone injection to clear up some folliculitis (inflamed hair follicle) on my chin and back of neck. I have yet to be diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The results of the test were all in the normal range, both for ratio and total kappa and lambda, which helped ease my concerns about having multiple myeloma. I just want to know if the shots could have caused the results to be normal or if they would have come back abnormal instead if I hadn't had the shot? I want to make sure the shots didn't cause the test to come back normal ifnit shouldn't have.

Re: Can medications affect the serum FLC test results?
It would be unlikely that a cortisone injection would alter the results in a short amount of time. However, it would not be impossible, so repeating the light chain test may be acceptable.
