Medicare coverage of subQ Velcade
It is possible I may go from Revlimid as a maintenance medication to Velcade if my small M-spike increase shows disease progression. I will be checked in 2 months instead of previous 3, Since I have developed some neuropathy already I am interested in SubQ Velcade. Does anyone know if medicare pays for this form of Velcade? I know IV Velcade is covered but the neuropathy concerns me. I don't think a medicare supplement would cover this. Anyone have any information?

Re: Medicare coverage of subQ Velcade
I can't answer your question about Medicare covering the subq administration of Velcade. I'm sorry.
The reason for my reply is because my husband is receiving subq Velcade because of peripheral neuropathy and I am wondering if private insurance covers it !!! We attended a multiple myeloma conference this past weekend and more and more studies are showing the advantages of using the subq method in order to relieve PN. You would certainly think that it would be in the insurance companies best interest to prevent further complications from cancer treatments, wouldn't you?
Good luck to us all in this quest for the best treatment and best quality of life in our dealings with multiple myeloma. May they peacefully co-exist !!!

Re: Medicare coverage of subQ Velcade
My mother is currently undergoing Velcade maintenance therapy and unforutnately Medicare does not cover subq for it. Fortunately her PN is not severe...mild to moderate burning and tingling on the bottom of her feet.. She is now 9 months post SCT and is doing fantastic...and will be 79 on 25 September!!!!

I am on Medicare and have been receiving Velcade subQ since 2/13/2012, so Medicare will pay for it.
