Can someone please help explain what this means? My mom has no M spike but it says:
"An atypical restricted band is present in the kappa region. The presence of free kappa light chains in the urine is consistent with a kappa-containing monoclonal gammopathy."
Does this mean my mother is relapsing or does this just mean the low levels of disease show up some months on the 24-hour urine collection?
Everything else looks ok so far.

Re: What does this 24-hour urine test result mean?
This just indicates that she has excess Kappa light chains that were found in the urinalysis. It is not very specific and does not tell much.
The Serum Free Light Chain Assay test, not the urine test, is much more specific. It will show the level of excess FLC and give a ratio. Assuming that she has had that test run regularly, you can then tell if there has been increase in the kappa levels as well as if the kappa-lambda ratio is high.

As Ron says, some Proteins are eliminated via the Kidneys/ Ureters...and some are not.
Further testing types (serum based) and queries of the provider, will usually give you more useful info to analyze Mum's Condition(s).
