Hello,
I haven't been diagnosed with anything, but I had some blood tests done and was wondering what to make of these results since I came across multiple myeloma several times doing searches related to the results:
Kappa - 31.4
Lambda - 10.8
Kappa / lambda - 2.91
IgG is low - 659
IgA and IgM are normal
Immunofixation shows: A poorly-defined area of restricted protein mobility is detected and is reactive with IgM and kappa antisera.
I welcome any an all input.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Meaning of light chain test results?
Hi Teej,
Welcome to the forum.
Why did your doctor run these specific tests in the first place?
Are the kappa and lambda numbers you list from a serum (blood) FREE light chain test?
Also, they likely ran a serum protein electrophoresis (SPEP) test if they ran the above tests. Do you have those results? On the SPEP test results, you want to look for a reading labelled monoclonal protein, abnormal band, paraprotein, M-protein, M-spike, or something like that.

Re: Meaning of light chain test results?
Thanks for the welcome, Multibilly.
He ran these tests and others because I have back pain, shin pain, GI complaints, fatigue, and an enlarged liver – to name the major players
The FLCs were from serum but I haven't seen any SPEP results as of yet. My doctor said a couple of the tests would take a long time, so maybe that's the SPEP? I don't recall seeing it on the order, but I may have missed it. I see him next week so I'll know more soon.

Re: Meaning of light chain test results?
Hi Teej,
First off, I'm not a doctor. Also, I'm not quite sure what to make of your immunofixation test results and whether it suggests the possibility of there being monoclonal IgM present in your blood or not..
But your skewed FLC numbers coupled with some of your symptoms (enlarged liver, fatigue, GI problems, etc) and the possibility that you may have some monoclonal IgM in your system makes me think of amyloidosis.
Let us know what happens at your next visit and good luck.
