Hi,
On behalf of my mother I need help with understanding lab results.
She is done with here low dose chemo treatment (Velcade), and will start to harvest stem cells for upcoming stem cell transplantation and high dose treatment. Do her values look good?
All values given in 10E9/L:
Leukocytes 24.20
Neutrophil granulocyte 20.60
Lymphocytes 1.43
Monocytes 1.98
Eosinophil 0.17
Basophile 0.02
Thrombocytes 323
Hemoglobin 11.7
Note: the values of leukocytes and neutrophil granulocyte used to be much lower during early phases of treatment ~2 month ago, ranging between 6-8.
In addition there is also values on:
lgG (g/L) 10.8
lgA (g/L) 1.3
lgM (g/L) 0.5
Protein electrophoresis showed a significant drop in monoclonal component (lgG kappa) just after starting the treatment, this has since been stable. The kappa/lambda ratio is high: 4.68.
Is there other values I should be aware of?
I'm afraid if plasma cell leukemia is present in addition to the myeloma, could this be seen on these results?

Re: Meaning of my mother's latest lab results?
Hi Lacerta,
For plasma cell leukemia, there needs to be circulating plasma cells in the peripheral blood stream. To quote Wikipieda: "The WHO criterion for diagnosis of PCL is that plasma cells constitute more than 20% of cells in the peripheral blood with an absolute plasma cell count of more than 2 × 109/L."
If your mother doesn't meet that criteria, I wouldn't worry about PCL.

Thanks for answer. And if I understand right, a manual observation of the blood smear would be needed?
