As a follow-up to my previous post, in case anyone is interested, the Mayo Clinic Network aired a radio program on July 12, 2014, with Dr. Stephen Russell and Stacy Erholtz. If you missed the broadcast, you can listen to a podcast of the radio program on the Mayo Clinic News Network:

One thing to consider with the "measles vaccine" used for multiple myeloma. If the virus works for x amount of months or years (treating multiple myeloma as opposed to curing it), it may prove to be a good alternative to drug therapies or even BMT. Perhaps the virus could be re-administered again if relapse occurs, similar to going back to drugs if relapse occurs.

With that said, ideally, we would want a cure.

I checked and I believe this is the clinicaltrials.gov entry for the Mayo trial:

"Vaccine Therapy With or Without Cyclophosphamide in Treating Patients With Recurrent or Refractory Multiple Myeloma" (NTCT00450814)

Has anyone heard if they have given anyone else such a high dose of the measles vaccine and what the results were?

Thanks.

No, I haven't heard. I think that the expansion of the trial is just beginning so there wouldn't be any results yet. I emailed Mayo about the trial and a study nurse called me about an hour later to assess whether I would be a candidate for the study. I wasn't because you have to have relapsed from being treated by an immunomodulatory like Revlimid, Thalidomide, or pomalidomide and a proteosome inhibitor like Velcade or Krypolis. I think that you may have had to have an ASCT, too. I don't remember that detail because I didn't qualify because I've never been treated with a proteosome inhibitor.

I think that it is an exciting study and possible treatment of Myeloma.

Has anyone read or anything more about the status on this clinical trial? Or if Erica is still in remission?

Thanks.

The first 18 minutes of this HBO video talks a little about the Mayo Clinic measles vaccine study. It's interesting to see some information on the phase 2 trial. This might have been posted here already, but I couldn't find it.

You beat me to it, DallasGG! I was going to post this and encourage everyone to watch. It is AMAZING! We often wonder why there are terrible diseases out there. Maybe this was the plan all along for smallpox, measles and HIV.
