Hi, my name is Joanna. I'm 34 yrs old was diagnosed with MGUS about 3 years ago. I went to my doctor last week after having bone pain and a few other symptoms.
Anyway, the blood work came back normal except my M-spike went from 0.1 to 0.2 g/dL (1 to 2 g/l). My free kappa quantitative blood level went up to 24.88, which normal is below 19.4.
My doctor says MGUS doesn't cause symptoms, but I feel this and now I don't go back til March 24, but my test results came to email so I know them before my doctor have me answers. Anyone know anything about this lab work?

Hi Joanna,
With an M-spike, people normally do not experience symptoms. Some people do experience a rash or nerve problems, such as numbness or tingling. Your M-spike is very low and your kappa free light chain level is just over the 19.4 upper threshold. You only have a 1% chance per year, for every year that you have an M-spike, of this becoming more serious.
Even though an M-Spike is abnormal, often times it does not cause any problems. However, it is something to watch closely with each blood test. When you meet with your doctor, discuss with him / her any abnormalities (outside of the normal ranges) on your blood tests and watch the trends / changes between blood tests. My wife was only referred to a hematologist when her M-spike reach 0.5 g/dL and she had a very low white blood count.
