When diagnosed, his plasma cell percentage was 95%. He was due to have his stem cell transplant in a week's time. All his numbers look great, and his M-spike is 0.5 g/dL (5 g/l), down from 13.5 g/dL. But the cancer specialists just called and said his bone marrow biopsy showed his plasma cell percentage is still high at 80%, so they can't do it.
I am devastated. Has this happened to anyone else and what was the next step?
I just don't understand how he can feel better and everything else looks good, but there still be 80% there.
