M-spike percentage - how is it calculated?
Every time we get the update on my husband's serum protein electrophoresis (SPEP), I notice that there is a result for the actual M-spike and then there is a result for M-spike percentage. How is the result for the M-spike percentage calculated?

Hi Melanie,
Just noticed your question.
For the likely answer, see this forum thread:
"M-spike reported as a percentage?," forum disc. started Sep 29, 2014.
I suspect you'll find that, if you take the percentage that you mention, and multiply it by the total protein in the same report, you will get the same number as the "actual" M-spike in the report.
Let us know if that turns out to be the case.

Thank you so much for your reply Cheryl G. I truly appreciate the help. I am working to understand my husband's bloodwork. Sometimes I think I have a handle on it, then I think I don't. Once again, thank you.
