Thank you! The test itself is over and went well. And now we wait.

Still waiting. The dreaded results come Monday :(

I don't exactly know how to feel about it. I mean, my gut says that he will technically be diagnosed with high risk smoldering myeloma, and that they will want to start some sort of treatment. This isn't what I want for him, I want him to not be sick all the time from medicine or go through a stem cell transplant so soon, and then there is even the chance he could smolder a long time, albeit maybe only a 20% chance. Hey, he is still part of a 1% that gets this disease. He is so active and still has so much life to live, he is our rock.

I'm hoping your father got good news on his biopsy.

The only thing I have to add to this discussion is that finding the doctor that's right for your dad makes all the difference. I too started off with a doctor that wasn't a good fit for me. I would leave the office worse than when I went in! I would be more confused and filled with anxiety and unanswered questions. My boyfriend went with me on the 4th, 5th and 6th visits and wasn't happy with the doctor either.

I made the switch to a new hematologist / oncologist and it has made all the difference in the world. She sat with me for about 45 minutes and explained my bone marrow biopsy. She calculated my odds of progression based on all of my tests and laid out a clear plan going forward. Instant relief for me!!!

While my current doctor isn't a myeloma specialist, she is extremely knowledgeable, patient, and compassionate. I hope you are able to find a doctor that is a good fit for your father – possibly you have already found someone.
