Re: How accurate are M-spike readings less than 1?

by f cancer on Fri Jan 27, 2017 11:05 pm

I just received my monthly lab work, which of course includes the all important M-Spike. I am on a maintenance program of 15 mg Revlimid, 21 days on, 7 days off, and 20 mg dex once a week with 4th week off.

Original diagnosis was in December 2015 with an M-spike of 1.20 g/dl. I did the stem cell harvest but not the transplant .

This month my M-spike was 0.30 g/dl, up from 0.21 g/dl. The previous 6 M-spikes as well as the latest were:

0.32 Aug 2016
0.37 Sep 2016
0.32 Oct 2016
0.28 Nov 2016
0.21 Dec 2016
0.30 Jan 2017

I was told the M-spike has a margin of error as it is up to the technician's visual reading. I am upset that the M-spike went up this month, but maybe the 0.21 was not accurate.

How concerned should I be? Do I hold my breath for another month when I take my next labs or am I being paranoid living as a number-phobic? Is this how most live with this disease - month by month?
