Will lower back pain lessen after treatment?

by bhagya on Sun Sep 17, 2017 3:21 am

My mother has very bad lower back pain and pain in the arm bones. She is currently being treated with cyclophosphamide, bortezomib (Velcade), and dexamethasone (CyBorD) ( 4 cycles done - 3 in a month with one week break. Zometa once a month).

She still complains of lower back pain although she is now active and does all her work. It is bad at times, but manageable otherwise. Her oncologist got her blood work done (immunofixation) and her report shows significant improvement in her condition. M spike has gone down and so has the kappa-lambda ratio. Her oncologist wants to complete 6 cycles (2 pending) and then check her numbers again before putting her on maintenance.

She has multiple lesions but all her organs are stable and no damage seen. She takes Simarouba herb daily on empty stomach and has no significant side effects from her myeloma treatment regimen.

We had her MRI done and couldn't locate any tumors on her back. So we are wondering what might be causing her back pain, and if it will go away as my mother responds to treatment?

Myeloma is a very personal illness. It affects each person somewhat differently. The back pain may lessen after treatment, or it may not. My dad's leg pain is only now starting to lessen slightly, this is 2.5 years after surgery to remove a massive lesion from his spine and finishing CyBorD (cyclophosphomide, bortezomib, and dexamethasone) treatment 14-15 months ago.

There are some persons here in the forum who practice meditation and the like for pain management.

As Little Monkey state, myeloma is a very individual disease. I never had back pain prior to diagnosis; however, I have lower back pain as a side effect from treatment.
