at the moment, my mother is being treated with Revlimid (15mg and weekly Dex at 40mg) after a relapse. Before the current treatment started and during the first weeks, her platelets were very low (at one time even below 10.000, she has reveived several transfusions) and she had bruises on her legs and arms. After one course of Revlimid and over ten days after the last transfusion, platelets today were at 55.000. She will start the second course in a few days and since her platelets are higher now, she is supposed to have daily (self-administered) injections of heparin to prevent thrombosis. She did have a thrombosis in her leg during induction therapy (which I think involved Velcade) and one in her port during the autlog. sct (both last year). I'm a bit worried now that her platelets are still rather low and that the heparin will place her at a higher risk for bleeding. Her next blood count check is in a week, so there would be several injections of heparin before the next check.
Does anyone have any experience with these circumstances? As for other stats, her white blood count only dropped a little during the first course of Revlimid and is now just below 4000, but her hb is consistently too low and she has been getting weekly, sometimes bi-weekly transfusion for that. The relapse was diagnosed from the anemia and elevated m-protein and igG levels (I don't have numbers because my mother didn't want to know them). No kidney problems or bone problems at the moment, except for a suspected base of skull lesion that causes a numb chin, pain and paresthesia (I posted about this earlier, the MRI is tomorrow).
