I have googled and googled and I can't find the answer. I am trying here and apologize for my naive question.
I recently went to the neurologist because the neuropathy that I have had for years is becoming more debilitating. It's sensory neuropathy of my hands and legs. I also have 7 lung nodules which have been deemed benign and a swollen aorta. I went through my second back surgery this year for a herniated disk. All of this is a lot for only being 38. I have been exhausted and sleeping much more than usual.
Neurologist ran a ton of bloodwork and the secretary called to say they are sending me to the hematologist / oncologist. The only bloodwork result she told me is that my "free lambda light chain" is 4.4 and should be 5.7-26.
I have searched the Internet. All I find is things regarding a higher than normal level. What about lower? Why is there a low range? I called back to see if I can get my kappa number and the ratio. I'm off to the hematologist next week. I have been told to not worry. Trying not to.
Anyone have any guesses?

Re: Low free lambda light chain
HI Blake,

It's hard to comment about a low lambda light chain value without also knowing the kappa and free light chain ratio numbers.
Also, if a doctor ran a serum (blood) free light chain assay, he/she most likely ran a serum immunofixation and serum protein electrophoresis test. Do you have those results as well? It's also hard to comment about free light chain values without also knowing those lab test results.

Re: Low free lambda light chain
I saw my doctor today. They are waiting on the protein electrophoresis. I have a high ratio kappa / lambda. Otherwise pretty healthy. Just waiting now for more testing. My ratio was 2.2, which still doesn't seem too high. I'm going to relax until told otherwise. My BUN levels were low, creatinine and calcium were low. No M-spike. So, I think I will just wait this out.
Thanks!
Thanks!
