lovenox

I was started on lovenox yesterday. Any advice about it?

Hi Kate,

My husband has been on Lovenox for a little over a year now after being diagnosed with a DVT, which can be a complication of Revlimid and from the multiple myeloma itself.

A couple things he was told during his patient education-- and he's unfortunately confirmed on his own!-- are be sure to let the alcohol dry from your skin before injecting yourself or it will sting a lot! He also has gotten pretty sore in his belly area where he injects all the time. The nurses said you can also inject in your thigh or back arm area to give your belly area a break.

Good luck with this--you will become a pro in no time and it will soon become just one of those things you do, like brushing your teeth. Best wishes for good health , too, as you deal with the multiple myeloma.

I had to inject Lovenox for several cycles at the beginning of my tretment two years ago. I divided the area around my belly button into eight segments and rotated my injections so that I only injected the same spot once every eight injections. Injecting closer and farther from the belly button by an inch or so can also help avoid injecting the same area too often. This helped alleviate the soarness. Also, being sure to "pinch" the skin up before injecting helped make sure it remained subcutaneous and didn't go too deep. If it goes to deep, this made it more sore.
