Hi all,
I am also looking at my first relapse after years of treatment, and very interested in anyone that has had success the second time around.
First let me give everyone a little background on myself. I am 51 with lambda light chain myeloma with one complication - I lost my kidneys at the onset of the myeloma 3 years ago. Started an 8 week Velcade combo at diagnosis 3.4 years ago followed by one STC in which I achieved complete remission. I was in complete remission for 6 months before a trace of myeloma showed up. Started 5mg of Revlimid 3x a week when the myeloma showed up. Was on this small amount of Revlimid for the last 3 years until I have slowly started to see my numbers creep up. My 24 hr urine proteins stayed level but light chains creeped up so we followed with bone marrow biopsy which confirmed the activity with one reading of 15% myeloma.
So to present day. I have decided on VRD on the recommendation just Friday. The tentative schedule would be to follow with my second STC soon depending on how the 8 week cycle of VRD goes. Velcade was very effective first go around. This will leave me with all the new drugs to battle in the future.
On my first treatment of Velcade I was using hemodialysis until after the lapse, them I switched to peritoneal dialysis. I can't help but to reason that the hemodialysis was a detriment to my health and remission the first go around.
Any and all responses are welcome.
Thank you to all on this forum, it is very helpful. Mark
