Hello, my wife was diagnosed in January 2011 with multiple myeloma, she is 45 years old.

Now the back story with a happy ending.

Prior to being diagnosed, my wife had high blood pressure. The BP was high for two years. Our family doctor told her to go home and drink a glass of wine and that would lower the BP. He did not subscribe any meds. The way it was discovered was through a doctor that we saw when our family doctor was busy and could not schedule us in November 2010. My wife went and saw him for a sever cold and he was concerned about the BP. He put her on some meds and about two months later she had sever headaches. We went back to the same doctor and he did a urine test and it showed that she had abnormal protein cells in the urine. This doctor then sent us to a nephrologist. After more blood work and a kidney biopsy, it was discovered that she had membranoproliferative glomerulonephritides (MPGN). Say that three times fast. The nephrologist stated that the MPGN is a secondary disease and it may be a cause of bone marrow cancer. We then went to an oncologist and she did a bone marrow biopsy and the results came back as multiple myeloma. To this oncologist credit, she stated that multiple myeloma was out of her league and referred us to a oncologist whos specialty is multiple myeloma. Well, in August just as she had received her stem cell transplant her kindeys failed her and she had to go on dialysis. In December 2011 we were informed that she had achieved CR. We have now found out that her sister is one test away from being able to donate a kidney. If all works out we will be somewhat back to normal by the end of the year.

I just want to say that I have been lurking around the forums for over a year and all the threads and responses have been very helpful. I figured that it is better late than never to finally introduce us.

Sorry for the long post.
