Switching to light-chain multiple myeloma at relapse

Does myeloma that once secreted an M protein relapse as "light chain" only often?

It does happen occasionally. Pat Killingsworth, who writes a regular column for the Beacon, went from having an M spike to having nonsecretory multiple myeloma. The disease can produce multiple clones. The initial multiple myeloma treatment may suppress the once dominant clone, but not impact others that later become dominant.
