Re: Light chain escape vs. light chain deposition disease
Hi Jewell,
No.
Light chain escape is by definition a phenomenon that can occur post-treatment, where the body secretes monoclonal light chains at a rate greater than the corresponding intact monoclonal immunoglobulin (i.e. M-spike) rate. It can occur in myeloma patients.
Light chain deposition disease (LCDD) is actually a disease (as opposed to a phenomenon) that is distinct from myeloma (but often is accompanied by a myeloma diagnosis), where the monoclonal light chains are deposited in various parts of the body instead of being cleared by the kidneys. These deposits can cause organ damage, etc.
