Leg weakness and swelling

by PaulS on Fri Jul 01, 2016 1:08 am

Hi,

I was diagnosed in April this year and started treatment with Velcade about nine weeks ago. Since then, the strength in my legs has dropped to the point that I can struggle to climb stairs at times. My legs are swollen from the knees down, and the bottoms of my feet are puffed up and tender.

Does anyone have any advice about getting this strength back? Usually I would exercise, but I don't know if that would help while I am still having treatment.

I have been told that it is caused by the dexamethasone.

I don't know if this is the same thing, but my 48 year old husband (multiple myeloma patient) had leg weakness and pain. He stopped Velcade and dex (with Revlimid) in September before his autologous stem cell transplant. But, he has had lingering issues. The bottom of his feet were tender. I don't recall any swelling. It has gotten better, but has not 100% cleared.

Doctors always told him to walk and exercise when we brought it up. For peripheral neuropathy the doctors could prescribe things, but my husband didn't want to add one more pill to his regimen.

Like I said, it has improved. I hope yours will, too.
