Laura Kowitski Dodd, 60 years old, was surrounded by her loving family when she peacefully passed away on September 24, 2017. She was born on January 7, 1957 in Cambridge, Maryland, to Nicholas and Betty Spear Kowitski. She attended schools in Dorchester County and graduated from Cambridge High School, Class of 1975. On August 11, 1979, she married the love of her life, Steven M. Dodd.
Laura enjoyed being outdoors; fishing, crabbing, and boating, with a special affinity for sailing.
She was an avid gardener, with a high degree of horticultural knowledge. Laura was also an extraordinarily creative and talented artist. Laura was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and daughter. She loved spending time with her family above anything else and prided herself on being a “Mom Mom” to her three grandchildren, Delaney, Nicholas and Nathan. She was a member of Zion United Methodist Church where she was part of the Hattie B. Skinner Circle and provided help in the nursery. Laura worked for the Dorchester County Public School System at their central office and North Dorchester High School. She retired in 2011 due to her declining health. Her most important occupation, however, was caring for her precious grandchildren, which she continued to do through all of her grueling cancer treatments and side effects stemming therefrom.
Laura is survived by her husband, Steven Dodd, and her parents, Nicholas and Betty Kowitski. In addition to her husband and parents, she is survived by her two children; son, Michael Dodd, and daughter, Angela Dodd Meekins and her husband, Matthew Meekins;grandchildren, who were her world, Delaney Dodd, Nicholas Meekins, and Nathan Meekins; her brother, David Kowitski; and nieces, Aubrie and Corinne Kowitski.
Laura and her family traveled the country, condensing 20 years of living into the 7 years she courageously fought against multiple myeloma, and she would ask that you do the same: take nothing for granted and live each day to the fullest.
A celebration of life will take place Saturday, September 30, 2017 at 11am at Zion United Methodist Church in Cambridge, Maryland. Family will receive visitors beginning at 10am. Arrangements are in the care of the Thomas Funeral Home, P.A. in Cambridge.

Re: Laura K Dodd, loving mother, wife, grandmother, daughter
I'm very sorry to read of your mom's passing, Michael. In spite of her time being cut short by this terrible disease, hers sounds like a life well-lived. I know you and your family would rather have her here with you, but I also know you'll find comfort in so many precious memories.
