Lamda Light Chain elevation initially NOW Kappa Light Chain

by DarnIachino on Thu Apr 08, 2010 2:48 pm

When my husband was first diagnosed with Multiple Myleoma with Plasma Cell Subset his Lamda Light Chain was elevated. Now after all the treatments & stem cell transplant his Kappa Light Chain is starting to rise. His doctor is puzzled with this development. Can anyone explain or tell me what it means?

It is important to know what the lambda to kappa ratio is, if this is close to normal, then it is likely a benign condition. We have seen the light chains rise in response to inflammation, infection, and at times of count recovery following chemotherapy/transplant, they eventually normalize.
