Hi,
My father was in relapse stage of multiple myeloma. Has anyone used Kyprolis (carfilzomib) in this stage?
His test results are:
Serum lambda of 2570
Serum kappa of 5.92
Kappa/lambda ratio of 0.23
M-spike of 1.14g/dl
Can he be treated with Kyprolis?
My oncologist have decided to use this medicine. How far the side effects will be?

Re: Kyprolis for relapsed multiple myeloma
Hi,
I would ask the doctor the following:
I would ask the doctor the following:
- What are the chances a single agent drug will work at this point?
- How many times has the multiple myeloma patient been exposed to this class of drug?
- Do we have 1 cycle (4 weeks of time) to spend on a drug that is primarily more effective when combined with other drugs?
- If it was successful as a single-agent drug in the past, what was the success rate of it being used as a single agent drug with multiple myeloma patients who had relapsed and had an aggressive form of multiple myeloma?
- Are we better off trying a 3 drug combo?

Re: Kyprolis for relapsed multiple myeloma
My daughter has just relapsed and they put her on Kyprolis with 40 mg dex on Thursday and Friday she gets an infusion of Kyprolis with dex on Thursday. Three weeks on and one week off, then starts the next cycle.
She had induction therapy of Velcade and dex but the Velcade gave her an irregular heartbeat and neuropathy but it did put her in remission. She had a SCT followed by Revlimid for a year. She started relapsing in April, so they upped the amount, but it did not do anything.
Hoping the Kyprolis works. I worry every day about the effects of all this on her young body, but what's the alternative?
