Kappa light chain of 30 - should I be worried?

Hi,

I have a result of kappa light chain of 30.03. Is this something to worry about?

Many thanks

Hi Artist,

Welcome to the forum.

Is this kappa light chain result from a serum (blood) free (not total) light chain test?

Sometimes you will see results reported for urine-based measurement of kappa and lambda free light chain levels. You also sometimes will see results reported for blood tests of TOTAL (not just FREE) light chain levels.

Also, what were the units that were next to the "30.03" result? Or you can just share the normal / reference range that goes with the result.

In general, it is really hard to interpret the meaning of such a result without some context. Have you been diagnosed and treated for a disease such as multiple myeloma? Or did this result just come back from a blood test that you had for some other reason?

Answers to those sorts of questions might help us help you a bit more.

Take care,
Cheryl

i have a consultant letter saying my blood test have found me to have cryofibrinogen running a normal ESR, serum free light chains showed kappa light chains were increased at 30.03 with lambda light chains normal, kappa/lambda ratio was altered at 1.87, electrophoresis is normal. Beta 2 micro globulin normal at 2.

This is all the information I have, any help would be appreciated

Many thanks
