Re: Kappa & lambda free light chains elevated (normal ratio)

Hi Sue,

Is your doctor suggesting salvage treatment right away, or is he/she going to first see what your lab numbers do over the next few weeks? It seems like your disease is undergoing a pretty big transformation right now.

Hi Multibilly,

My doctor is proposing to start me on Revlimid, Velcade, and dexamethasone (RVD) once he receives the bone marrow biopsy results in two weeks time. (I have the biopsy and further blood work tomorrow.) He has also discussed an autologous transplant followed by an allogeneic in the new year. This is a big decision to make right now as I lost the sight in my left eye during my last stem cell transplant due to haemorrhaging.

A lot seems to be happening with the disease within a short space of time. There is a lot to digest here. In myself I feel great. I don't want to feel ill again on treatments and I dare not think about further transplants as I have only just recovered from the auto in June.

Kind regards,

Sue

Hi,

I just wanted to post that my light chains have been reducing, and they are nearly within the normal range, i.e. kappa 20.3 and lambda 33. Ratio has always been normal. I had a bone marrow biopsy on December 30, and this came back minimal residual disease (MRD) negative. The SPEP changed to 9.4 with IgG kappa and lambda, IgM kappa and IgA kappa. A week later, it had gone down to 7.7, showing IgG kappa and lambda and IgA kappa.

I went for a PET scan and received the results yesterday - it was clear of any myelomatous activity. So it would appear this new and changing paraprotein is a secondary MGUS.

After 7 weeks of investigations, I had been told I had relapsed with aggressive disease. I now feel very relieved and blessed. Prayers have been answered.
