This is the first time I have joined any kind of forum like this. I have been diagnosed with high risk MGUS and am curious about how my tests compare with others.
M spike is 1.3 g/dL
Plasma cell percentage (from bone marrow biopsy) is 6%
Platelets - 497
Kappa free light chain - 18.51
Lambda free light chain - 1580.00
Obviously, there are many other results, but it looks like these are the ones looked at the most.

Re: Newbie just diagnosed with MGUS
Just wanted to add that I am seeing a hematologist / oncologist and she is testing my blood every month. I have been so worried and will have a second opinion done next week at Hopkins.

Re: Newbie just diagnosed with MGUS
Hi Jill.
I am glad you are going to Hopkins for a second opinion next week. The M-spike qualifies as MGUS, but the ratio of kappa free light chains to lambda's looks like active myeloma to me.

Re: Newbie just diagnosed with MGUS
Welcome to the forum, Jill. Thank you for introducing yourself.
As Cathy mentioned, it's great that you'll be seeing someone at Hopkins soon. In the meantime, perhaps we can help you put your results in perspective, and help you understand them a little bit.
To do that, though, there are some questions I'll have to ask about the results you've shared and other results you may have.
I should add that, without checking these things that I'm going to ask about, I really think it's too soon to say anything definite about where you stand compared to others with MGUS, or whether you really have MGUS or perhaps something else. So please don't worry!
Your plasma cell percentage from your bone marrow biopsy is in the range normally associated with MGUS -- less than 10 percent.
You listed your M-spike and kappa and lambda free light chain levels, and you are correct that those are useful lab results to be tracking. A few questions about those results:
First, were the free light chain results from a blood (serum) test or a urine test?
Second, what were the units of the results? Were they mg/L or mg/dL or something else?
Also, do you have any blood test results for your creatinine level, your calcium level, and your hemoglobin level? Those are useful values to know and track as well.
Finally, do you have the results of your immunoglobin level tests. These would be labeled something like "Total Immunoglobulins" and usually would list values for IgA, IgG, and IgM. If you have those, could you let us know what they are and, once again, please include units, just to be sure.
Take care.

Re: Newbie just diagnosed with MGUS
Thank you SO much for the replies! The tests were done from blood work.
The units for the light chains were mg/L.
Hemoglobin 13.3 g/dL
Platelets 497 x10E3/uL
Creatinine, Serum 0.63 mg/dL
Calcium, Serum 9.4 mg/dL
Immunoglobulin G, Qn, Serum 1978 mg/dL
Immunoglobulin A, Qn, Serum 130 mg/dL
Immunoglobulin M, Qn, Serum 29 mg/dL
Kappa / Lambda Ratio, S 0.01
Any enlightenment is greatly appreciated!!!
